Federer Silences Monfils, To Face Djokovic

The Swiss tennis maestro has shows dramatic improvements from his results upon last year's Roland Garros semis, making him really a good bet for tennis sports betting in this year's Paris tournament. But for the first time, for the longest time (since 2003 to be more specific), the former world number 1 and now world number 3 Roger Federer is not one of the top two seed favorites to win the title. Now he is set to play Novak Djokovic after muting the French Open 2011 hometown favorite and world number 9 Gael Monfils in an impressive 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 win. The 16 time Grand Slam title holder appears to be fit and ready to give a fighting chance for his spot in the semis of this year's tournament in Paris.

Gael Monfils showed a good fighting chance for his countrymen and bookmaker online fans, but the Federer is just too much, and Monfils can't keep the game for more than three sets.

Federer was ousted in quarterfinals last year as Robin Soderling beat him in a four set match in Paris. Monfils on the other hand, who has lost 3 of his last 4 outings in French Open, is nowehre near Soderling's performance last year on clay.

Federer is set to face the Serbian Novak Djokovic tomorrow. Unlike Federer, Djokovic will be fresher and more rejuvenated for their tomorrow's game, as he was given a free pass in the quarterfinals as the ranked 49 in the world Italian withdraw from the tournament due to an injured thigh.

The semis atmosphere is no longer new to Nole, as he has been there before. However, the world number 2 has never made it to the finals at the clay courts of Paris. Djokovic may have knocked Federer out in the last two Grand Slam events they have met, and many online sports betting patronizers have been calling for Nole to eliminate the Swiss once more.

I couldn't wait for tomorrows match-up, as Nadal will also face Soderling on the other court in Paris. Truly a blockbuster day for tennis fans tomorrow.
